At First UMC, ministering to and with children is a TOP priority! Our children are changing the world!
Peace Pole Project – the Sunday School children have been faithfully bringing in their offerings each week to purchase a peace pole (and maybe two) for our church. They have sung, talked, and learned about PEACE and being peacemakers.
Weekly Sunday School – Sunday School is offered every Sunday between 9 and 10:00 AM except the first Sunday of each month when families worship together and receive communion.
Lessons are created using the lectionary with a special emphasis on using a variety of learning styles such as art, dance, music, drama with puppets, computers, faith story telling and children-in-mission. Classes begin following the Children’s Message during the contemporary worship at 9:00 AM. Parents pick up children following worship. Summer Sunday School offers fun and interactive Bible learning in a relaxed environment. First UMC incorporates a Safe Sanctuary policy to ensure the safety of all children and their leaders.
Special Events – We have several events especially for Children throughout the year, including a special Good Friday worship experience, Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas Pageant, and other gatherings. We try and keep the children engaged and “growing in body and wisdom like Jesus.”
Vacation Bible School – We offer a Vacation Bible School for children Pre-K – 5th grade. This year, this will take place June 20-24, 2011. Through classes and various stations, our children will learn about the parable of the Sower and how to be good stewards of God’s creation. For more information about VBS, click HERE.
