Confirmation

After receiving their Bibles on September 16, 2012, the Confirmation class jumped right into meeting each week. Over the course of eight months, the Confirmands will engage in 25 classes, field trips, and a class trip to Philadelphia. On the field trips, the students will be experiencing different faith traditions, including the Baha’i’ faith, Islam, Buddhism, Willow Creek, and Trinity UCC. Our Confirmation students are each paired with a Mentor, with whom they check in, pray, and read the Gospel of Mark. Our class trip to Philadelphia in February focused on Methodist history in the United States as we visited the oldest Methodist church and witness a reenactment! Check out Pastor Carol’s photo album of the trip here.

So, all this sounds good, but what IS the purpose of Confirmation anyway? Well, Confirmation is an educational journey, when our young people learn about our faith tradition. Their parents may have had them baptized as infants, and made promises to teach them about God. This is an intentional time to really talk about our creed – what we believe. The students are encouraged to question and challenge doctrines that might not make sense to them. At the end of the year, the Confirmands are given an opportunity to make their profession of faith – choosing to claim for themselves the Christian faith and membership in this local congregation.
Please hold our confirmation students in prayer: Danielle Brunner, Katie Daehler, Emma Dyer, Alex Gagliardi, Bridget Johnson, Ryan McLaughlin, Britney Richardson, Ethan Smail, Ashley Spears, Allison Tommasi, and Isabel Virgen. Also pray for Pastor Carol and Bill and Jody Baty as they lead the class.
